Isolated USB to DMX512 Converter(160493)
An isolated USB to DMX512 converter. Isolated up to 1kv. Specific for light control. Works with Windows and MacOS, with open source DMX programs.
For controlling show lighting, there are today many cheap converters. However, they are not isolated. This runs the risk of blowing up the USB of the PC in the event of a short circuit in a lighting fixture.
Well-isolated USB to DMX512 converters are very expensive, which has led me to design an alternative. With an attempt to make them cheaper than the well-known isolated converters.
The schematic is quite basic, and based on the Entec open DMX. However, an isolated RS-485 tranciever of Analog devices (ADM2483BRWZ) was chosen in combination with a circuit monitor (ADM809SARTZ).
An isolated DC/DC converter was used for the power isolation. In this case, I have been asked to test the MagI3C Power Module (177920511) from WÜRTH and use it in the design.
I specifically designed the PCB for a Bopla housing (26085000).
The converter was tested with Freestyler on windows. MacOS has been tested with Lightkey and QLC+. Where in a universe all 512 channels can be used. This is also an advantage over cheap converters. During the various tests, RGB LED spotlights and scanners were used. It functioned satisfactorily.

1. Eurolite USB-DMX512-Interface/Update-Ad (kommerzielles Adapterkabel 44€ bei Thomann)
2. Diesen Converter hier.

It seems IC2 is sold out at Farnell now, and as I want to use this for a Christmas lightshow (driving a single DMX unit) I'm going to link it out of the circuit until the part arrives, I guess there should be no problems with that?

Hello everyone I want to make the circuit board to make me a dmx usb adapter
is there anyone who has the gerber file?

Thanks for this good information! I have found MEE1S0505SC (compatible with NME0505) at reichelt
https://www.reichelt.de/dc-dc-wandler-mee1-1-w-5-v-200-ma-sil-single-mee1s0505sc-p140575.html?
The MME variant has an efficiency of 83%. It is currently available.
I have also found the WPMIB9200501S (177920511) at mouser electronics
https://www.mouser.de/ProductDetail/wurth-electronics/177920511/?qs=MoCBKJu1Jj2kQJ2cNftgaw==&countrycode=DE¤cycode=EUR
But it is currently out of stock.
The issue of farnell depends on the country. The message from farnell is: In Germany farnel element 14 supplies only business customers. It seems to be a VAT issue. But with your alternitive it does not matter!

It may depend on the country where you live, but I (living in France) can order from Farnell as a private person (and I do so regularly). You must pay with a credit card though.

the component WPMIB9200501S (177920511) is currently not available for private persons on this planet (Earth). Farnell sells only to business customers!
This component is not bad for design purposes, but it is not available for private persons. I assume most of the readers of your articles are private persons. So it is a bad idea to use these components.
Do you have a recomendation where to get this component without the need to found a company? By the way at farnell it is out of stock.

We could have powered the circuit directly from USB, but that was exactly what we wanted to prevent. With this module the DMX signals are completely galvanically seperated from the USB port and you don't risk blowing any PC/laptop parts due to spikes on the DMX bus.

I have to say though, this part is pretty expensive...
From a design standpoint i understand that this part was used, but isn't there any alternative to this that is a better bang for buck value?

Be quick! ;)

I can only find it anywhere in backorder (after i found out this is the right description, so the parts list should be updated, with the other description, you can't find it)

And also, when will they be available?

I did that for an interface with 4 FT232R
USB String Descriptors (116kb)

The use of multiple DMX universes is pretty common these days. and this project is very interesting

What exactly do you mean by "using multiple of these DMX512 converters"? Do you mean whether you can use two of them on the same PC?
(I will check when they will become available)
