My eye caught the project entitled Voice Controlled Ultraviolet Sterilization Robot. This project seemed to have been liked by nearly 40,000 people and had about 20 excellent comments and 6 bad comments.
Although this project seemed to be very interesting to me, when I had a look at it in a bit of detail, I have discovered the following missing/wrong points:
1. The reviews were repeated by the same people with exactly the same wordings. Could it be that a computer generated review is used? Also, although I cannot prove otherwise, 40,000 views seemed to be a bit unrealistic to me.
2. The software of the project is not given
3. The video of the project is not given to show it working in real time
4. From the description and the circuit diagram, it seems that they have not used the microphone of the MAX78000, but rather they developed an application on an Android phone using the MIT App Inventor package (see my book on this topic). This app communicates with the MAX78000 over a HC-05 Bluetooth interface using the serial port of the MAX78000. i.e. the project does not use any AI features of the MAX78000!. Words are spoken to the Android which are then sent to the MAX78000 over the Bluetooth interface!.
5. MAX32630 is a 3.3V device, but the Echo output of the ultrasonic sensor, which is +5V, is directly connected to an input pin of the MAX32630.
6. DS1923-F5 stores (logs) the temperature and humidity automatically at the pre-specified times. As a result, there is no need to use the DHT11 temperature/humidity sensor. The authors say that the DHT11 data is stored in iButton. This is not possible since DS1923-F5 has built in sensors.
7. 2 x DC motors are used in the circuit, but the L298N motor controller has inputs to control only one motor (only enable and IN1, IN2 pins are used in the circuit). It is not possible to move and turn using only one motor.
8. The + input of the MAX406 operational amplifier is connected to +V supply voltage, therefore forcing its output to saturation at positive rail. How can the negative input have any effect at the output under these circumstances?
9. MAX78000 is connected to the MAX32630 using the two SPI lines MISO and MOSI. The clock SCK line does not seem to be connected.
10. 5W UVC bulbs operate at minimum 36V, 180 mA (some units may require mains power at 110V or 220V). How does the MAX406 drive the UVC bulb?
11. The readings in Table 2 and Table 3 do not match Figure 9 and Figure 10 respectively. In Table 2 for sample 1, the maximum temperature before exposure is 30 degrees with a mean of 28.3. After the exposure the figures are 44 degrees with a mean of 42.8. But in Figure 9 the temperature is 65 degrees before and over 50 degrees after??
12. The infrared sensor shown in the circuit diagram is not suitable for distance measurements. It has only supply voltage and digital output pin (it has 3 pins and its is meant to sense IR not to measure distance). It can possily be used to measure very close distances such as less than 10cm as it is not accurate and effected by environmental lighting. Also, why use an additional distance sensor in the front if you already have an ultrasonic sensor??
